First meeting of the Representatives -22nd Oct 2014
Democracy was in action at Sandbach School with the first meeting of the Representatives following the exciting developments to the School Council.
The School Council has recently been restructured and now comprises two groups of students: the Senate and the Representatives. The Senate comprises of two appointed students from each year group in Years 7 – 11 as well as five Senators for the sixth form. The Representatives, 2 from each form provide the elected voice of each year group in school.
Senators and the Representatives groups meet every half term. The Senators first met on 13th October and items on the agenda included the school’s development priorities for this year and their role in chairing the Representative’s meeting. Following this meeting, the elections for the Representatives began and after a number of vibrant campaigns, 2 representatives from each form were duly elected.
The representatives met on Wednesday 22nd October. Each meeting was chaired by the Year Group Senators and items on the agenda included views on rewards and sanctions, opinions on the recent Student Enrichment Day and matters arising from forms. All meetings were led very professionally by the Senators and Representatives engaged in dynamic and productive discussions.
Representatives will now feedback to their forms and gather views whilst Senators will feedback to each other and members of Leadership Group and governors, therefore making sure that student views are listened to and acted on throughout the school.
