During a volatile examination system which has seen a huge amount of instability and uncertainty for schools, staff and students at Sandbach School are celebrating an increase in the key subjects of English and Mathematics. English has increased to 70% and Maths have had record results of 85% gaining A*-C. Over 50% gained 8 A*-C grades which is one of the new accountability measures for schools.
Headteacher Mrs Burns commented. ‘We are really pleased with the achievement of students of all abilities. Over 99% of students gained 5 A*-G grades with 92% gaining 8A*-G grades. At the top end over 50% of students have gained at least one A*/A which is an impressive statistic.’
Students that gained all A*/A grades include Matthew Bunn 6A* and 2A; Jacob Booth 5A* and 4A; Cameron Crampton 4A* and 4A; Max Howe 4A* and 5A; Stephen Wilson 4A* and 5A; Conor Reeves 3A* and 6A; Charles Tam 3A* and 6A; Kiran Shridhar 3A* and 5A; Sam Walley 2A* and 6A; Harley Nicholls 1A* and 8A and Daniel Stark 1A* and 7A.
However, it should be emphasised that the results this year are not comparable with previous years as the changes to the way in which subjects are examined have taken effect. Mrs Burns added, ‘I wish to congratulate staff and students on the hard work and tremendous effort that went in to these results. It has not been easy to manage the changes that have been imposed upon the assessment of GCSEs and in a turbulent year the school has continued to maintain its high academic standards.’
